Ron Nachmani, 28 years old from Yavne, is suspected of breaking into nine buildings in Rosh Ha'Ain last week and stealing nine defibrillators. The devices were installed in the lobby of the buildings for use in an emergency in which CPR is required. The value of each of the life-saving devices is estimated at NIS 5,000.
According to the suspicion, a man wearing a hoodie entered the lobby of the buildings, stole the device and left the place.
However, it was recorded on the buildings' security cameras and a complaint was filed with the police.
At this point the devices have not been located.
Theft of a defibrillator from a building in Rosh Ha'Ain
Nachmani was brought to a hearing at the Magistrate's Court in Petah Tikva when the police charged him with the offenses of theft and criminal trespass.
The representative of the police, Sergeant Stanislav Moldovanov, said at the hearing: "This is a serious case that occurred in the city of Rosh Ha'Ain when the suspect stole nine defibrillators - valuable resuscitation devices - from nine different buildings.
What ties the suspect apart from the photos is also evidence.
In one of the cases he was seen getting into a car.
The complainant recorded the license plate of the vehicle registered in the suspect's name.
Later on, the vehicle was also caught in Rosh Ha'in."
Nachmani denied that he was the one who stole the resuscitation equipment.
According to him, about two years ago the identification plates were stolen from his vehicle and that the vehicle used by the thief was not his vehicle.
He also claimed that he was not at all present when the thefts were committed.
He also claimed that he cannot be identified with certainty in the security camera footage.
At the end of the hearing, Judge Liora Frankel extended Nachmani's detention by two days.
In her decision, the judge stated: "The police attribute to the suspect the theft of multiple defibrillators from different buildings in Rosh Ha'Ain. I looked at the investigation file and it shows that there is a reasonable suspicion that the suspect is related to the new charge attributed to him. I believe that the police should be allowed to complete the investigation while the suspect is in custody."
