A plane made an emergency landing in the Cuban capital, Havana, and the passengers were evacuated after it collided with birds and smoke appeared in the cabin.
The Cuban Aviation Authority said, according to Agence France-Presse: The accident occurred yesterday, shortly after the take-off of the Boeing 737 of the American Southwest Airlines, which was heading to Fort Lauderdale in the state of Florida in the southern United States.
The authority indicated that, according to the applicable mechanism, the plane was allowed to land in Havana, and the passengers were evacuated while they were in good condition, and an investigation was opened in this accident.
For its part, Southwest Airlines announced in a statement that birds collided with one of the engines as well as the front of the plane, which was carrying 147 passengers and six crew members, and that the pilots returned safely to Havana, where the passengers were evacuated from the plane through the slides due to smoke in the cabin, and that another plane would transport the passengers to Fort Lauderdale.
