The trial of the ex-partner of Salomé, 21, beaten to death and found in 2019 abandoned under a pile of rubbish, in Cagnes-sur-Mer, opened Monday in Nice, four years after the facts.

Amin Mimouni, 26 at the time of the events, has been appearing since Monday and until Friday for aggravated murder before the Alpes-Maritime Assize Court and faces life imprisonment.

"The black hole"

Quickly arrested after the discovery of the body of the young woman by a passerby, near a railway line, the man had disputed during his police custody any violence against his girlfriend, just evoking an argument.

He then referred to “

the black hole

”.

The murder took place on the night of August 30 to 31, 2019, four days before the opening of the Grenelle against domestic violence.

Salomé's ex-boyfriend, with whom he had lived for nine months and to whom the young woman had announced her intention to leave him, was known to the police.

Presenting a clean criminal record, he had however been targeted by a complaint for violence filed by an ex-girlfriend in 2016, a complaint dismissed for lack of being able to be substantiated.

Violence which, according to the lawyer of the family of Salomé, Me Laura Lopez, had also targeted the young woman during their short relationship.

"

We know that in the file there are scenes of violence between them

," she told AFP on the eve of the trial.

The young man's mother "

had also filed handrails targeting her son for acts of violence

," added the lawyer.

The case had also raised questions about the intervention of the police, alerted by telephone that a “

young person massacred a girl

”, but who had found no woman during their intervention.

Justice had then decided to seize the IGPN (General Inspectorate of the National Police) “

on the verification of the existence of non-assistance to person in danger

”, had specified the prosecutor of the Republic of Grasse.

A policeman had finally received a reprimand.

Before the opening of the trial on Monday morning, a collective gathered in front of the Nice courthouse, brandishing banners demanding "

Justice for Salomé

".

The number of feminicides increased by 20% in France in 2021 compared to the previous year, with 122 women killed under the blows of their spouse or ex-spouse, against 102 in 2020, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior .
