From the night of this March 6 and until dawn on the 7th, we will be able to witness the full moon of March, which is known by various names, including the full worm moon.

This is the last full moon of the boreal winter, since spring begins on March 21 in the northern hemisphere of the Earth.

Although it is not a supermoon (this year there will only be four of this type, starting with one in July, two in August and the last one in September), the full moon is an astronomical event that never disappoints, since we can see the satellite nature of the Earth shining in all its splendor.

Why is the March moon known as the full worm moon?

According to the Farmer's Almanac, the name originates from the fact that warmer temperatures begin to arrive this month.

With warmer weather, the soils in the northern hemisphere begin to thaw and with it earthworms appear.

"As the temperature begins to warm and the ground to thaw, earthworms appear, heralding the return of robins, hence the origin of the full moon in March, called the full worm moon," says the Farmer's Almanac.

Likewise, among other names, this moon is also known as the full raven moon, which is related to the end of the boreal winter.

"Native American tribes farther north knew this moon as the full raven moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter," notes the Farmer's Almanac.

What time to see it and how to see it live?

The EarthSky website notes that the full worm moon will be more than 99% observable from the night of March 6 and that the full moon will peak at 6:40 a.m. ET. from Mexico) or at 7:40 am (Miami time).

"So if you live in central North America, your full moon will arrive around sunrise on March 7, 2023," EarthSky says.
