A serious traffic accident occurred on Fortress Hill Road in North Point yesterday (5th). An urban taxi carrying passengers was driving diagonally towards King's Road. Some people claimed that the taxi with brake failure went straight through the intersection. Three female passers-by were knocked down , the taxi then slammed towards the traffic lampposts and railings before stopping. The 84-year-old taxi driver surnamed Ni and the 43-year-old male passenger surnamed Zhuang Nei were also injured.
After further investigation by the police, Ni Weng has been provisionally charged with the crime of "dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others". The case will be brought up in the Eastern District Magistrates' Court tomorrow (7th) morning.
Among the five injured, the 84-year-old taxi driver surnamed Ni had chest pains. He passed an alcohol test and was treated at Ruttonjee Hospital. He was discharged yesterday.
The 48-year-old non-Chinese female passerby surnamed Singh and the 59-year-old female passerby suffered head injuries and fell into a coma. After rescue, they are still in critical condition today (6th).
As for another 48-year-old foreign female passerby with rubbed right hand, the 43-year-old male passenger surnamed Zhuang Nei in the taxi was conscious with scraped right leg. Both of them were discharged from the hospital yesterday.
