The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, discussed with the President of the Chilean University of Bernardo O'Higgins, Claudio Rove Escobar, the prospects for joint scientific and cultural cooperation, especially in the field of student and professor exchange, the publication of scientific research and the exchange of experiences.
Minister Ibrahim gave an overview of the higher education system in Syria, the expansion of scientific specializations and patterns of higher education such as parallel and virtual education, open education, and integration between public and private universities, expressing his hope to sign joint scientific agreements with the Chilean side to frame areas of research and cultural cooperation, and the possibility of exchanging scientific visits. For professors and students, participation in conferences and scientific activities on both sides, as well as joint supervision of master's and doctoral research theses.
For his part, the President of the Chilean University of Bernardo O'Higgins expressed his happiness for visiting Syria, and stressed the desire to cooperate with its universities and scientific institutions, pointing out that this is the first visit of a delegation from the university, which includes 9 thousand students and various specializations, and it is an informational visit that includes several provinces to study the capabilities available on both sides and organize Mutual coordination, in a way that achieves the service and interest of the peoples of the two friendly countries, and supports areas of development and raising production.
The meeting was attended by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Chilean Embassy in Damascus, Jose Patricio Briquel, and members of the delegation.. Jorge Arias Garrido, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Raul Peña Silva, Director of Communication at the University, and the two deputy ministers of higher education and scientific research and director of cultural relations at the ministry.
Earlier today, the Chilean University of Bernardo O'Higgins signed an agreement with Al-Sham Private University for joint scientific cooperation and academic exchange of students and professors, as well as cooperation in the field of conducting studies and research in astronomy, earthquakes and disasters, and other various chemical and educational researches.
The delegation of the Chilean University of Bernardo O'Higgins began a five-day visit to Syria this morning, during which it will hold meetings with the heads of the universities of Damascus, Al-Baath, Aleppo, Tishreen, the Levant and Cordoba, in addition to a tour to many ancient historical and archaeological sites.
