Three years after the cessation of the arrival of the youth delegations to Poland and following the talks led by Prime Minister Netanyahu with the Polish government, today (Tuesday) the parties agreed on the return of the Israeli youth delegations.

This, at the end of a prolonged stalemate in relations between Israel and Poland, and after the delegations were stopped due to a lack of agreement between the countries on the delegation, its content and security.

Following the round of talks between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his counterpart and the conversation that Foreign Minister Eli Cohen had with the Polish Foreign Minister about a month ago, in which he sought to advance the solution for the return of the delegations to Poland, representatives of the Polish Foreign Ministry announced today that Poland views positively the renewed arrival of the youth delegations to Poland and acknowledges their importance for further promoting relations between the countries.

"After a wasted year, we are returning the youth delegations to Poland," commented Prime Minister Netanyahu.

"The lessons of the holocaust can be learned in many ways, but nothing is better than seeing the eyes. I welcome the fact that we were able to bring the delegations back to learn more about the terrible holocaust."

"From the time I took office, I stated that the decision to return the student delegations to Poland is a top priority," Education Minister Yoav Kish also commented.

"I welcome the cooperation with my counterpart, the Polish Minister of Education, and thank him for his willingness to reach agreements. It is of great importance to pass on the memory of the Holocaust to convey these contents, which are an integral part of our heritage as the Jewish people."

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen also commented and claimed that the delegations "are of great importance in shaping the national identity of the youth, and their return is further evidence of the warming that has occurred in relations between the countries under the leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu."

The trips were resumed last year after two years in which they did not go out due to the corona epidemic, and were subsequently canceled following the demands of Poland.

The debate with Poland arose around its desire to change the process that the students go through on the trips, among other things in relation to their part in World War II, to training sets, visiting certain sites and the way in which Russia's part in the victory over Germany is presented.

Also, Poland's desire to change the security of the trips came up, so that they would not comprehensively approve the members of the Shin Bet who secure the students to carry weapons on the territory of the country.
