State President Yitzhak Herzog met today (Tuesday) with representatives of the forum of the largest companies in the economy, who expressed to him their concern about the damage that may be caused to the state's economy by the legal revolution as it is currently being promoted by the government.

Herzog met with them as part of his efforts to gather support for the president's outline for a compromise on the legal reform he is promoting.

At the meeting, in which representatives of the 27 largest companies in the economy were present, they discussed with the president the potential dangers to the economy if there is no agreed outline, and asked him to continue his efforts to bring about a broad agreement.

In the coming days, the President intends to publish a new outline for a compromise on the issue of the legal revolution, based on the discussions of academics and lawyers who held talks at the President's house in recent weeks.

He is trying to mobilize public pressure on the politicians from the coalition and the opposition to accept the outline.

Herzog published for the first time an outline for a compromise on the legal revolution last month, in which he demanded the cessation of legislation before opening negotiations.

In the coalition, they refused to stop the discussions on the legislation, and in the opposition, they refused to hold negotiations as long as the legislation was ongoing, and therefore the president moved to hold a legal-academic dialogue with the participation of researchers and academics from all ends of the research and political spectrum.

According to sources involved in the talks, in the talks that took place at the President's residence, understandings were reached regarding 80-90% of the issues, including waiving the overreach clause, anchoring basic laws, and reducing the reason for reasonableness - but the largest and most significant gap between the parties remains the coalition's control of the Committee for the Selection of Judges, which the Minister of Justice will contest Levin refuses to compromise until now.

At the President's residence this morning they denied one of the outlines published in the media and claimed that many proposals were forwarded to the President in recent weeks by researchers and academics from various institutes.

"The President of the State has not yet formulated a final outline, and once it is formulated the President will present it to the citizens of Israel," it said.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin and Chairman of the Constitution Committee MK Simcha Rothman, who are leading the promotion of the revolution, expressed opposition to the published outline but expressed a willingness to promote agreements for compromises.

"We are happy for the president's clarification that what was published as the 'President's outline' is not on his opinion or on his behalf. Besides, as is clear to any reader, that 'outline' is a sterilization of the reform from its fundamental content."

According to them, "After many days of discussions, it can be clearly said that there are broad agreements at hand, ones that will not displace the reform from its essentials and will benefit from a broad consensus. We will continue to promote the legislation as planned, and we will continue our attempts to reach broad agreements just as we have done in recent months."
