An employee of the employment service in Berhat was arrested today (Tuesday) on suspicion of defrauding state funds of more than NIS 100,000.
According to the police, the investigation that has been going on for the past few months was in cooperation with the investigation division of the National Insurance.
It is suspected that she used to fictitiously enter into systems entitled to financial benefits dozens of jobseekers from the Arab society - some of them family members, thus allowing those jobseekers and income support recipients to fraudulently receive tens of thousands of shekels from state funds - without reporting as required by the National Insurance procedures.
According to the suspicion, she acted methodically for a long period of time and received a financial bribe in exchange for making the false report in the systems, taking advantage of her position and position in the office.
This morning, with the transition to an open investigation, the investigators of the Fraud Unit in the South District raided the office of the suspect, on suspicion of receiving a bribe, cheating under aggravated circumstances, false registration in corporate documents and offenses according to the National Insurance Ordinance and conducting a search during which various documents were seized.
According to the police, the suspect was handed over for questioning and as necessary she will be brought to a hearing today with a request to extend her detention.
The investigation is being conducted by the police and the National Insurance, accompanied by the Taxation and Economic Prosecution.
"The Israel Police will continue to act against the phenomenon of fraud and fraud that harms the country's economy, using all the means at its disposal, with the aim of prosecuting the perpetrators," the police said.
