Two pilots from the Italian air force died when their two planes collided in flight not far from Rome at the end of the morning, Italian head of government Giorgia Meloni said in a statement on Tuesday.

The news of the death of two air force pilots in an air accident that occurred in Guidonia, near Rome, fills us with sadness,"
she said, sending her condolences to their families and the Air Force.
The two pilots were on board two training aircraft, U-208s, and were participating in a training mission, the Air Force said in a statement.
The U-208 aircraft is a light, single-propeller aircraft that can carry, in addition to the pilot, a maximum of four passengers, at a maximum speed of 285 km/h.
The reasons for the mid-air collision between the two aircraft are not known at this stage.
