After going to the European front by obtaining an agreement with the EU on the thorny question of Northern Ireland, Rishi Sunak goes on the offensive on illegal immigration.
The Prime Minister tightened the system on Tuesday, unveiling a new law prohibiting migrants entering the United Kingdom illegally from applying for asylum.
Believing that the existing legislation was not "
adequate
" to deal with the "
gross violations
" of those crossing the Channel, Home Secretary Suella Braverman introduced the bill in the House of Commons.
According to this new text, migrants who have crossed illegally will not be able to claim asylum and they will be quickly sent back to their country of origin or sent to third countries, known as “safe”, such as Rwanda.
According to the law, the Home Office will have to carry out the eviction "
as quickly as reasonably practicable
", in a matter of weeks.
