Three major reasons for not considering childbearing: physical condition, financial burden, and large support responsibilities
In February, the Women's Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions conducted a questionnaire survey on "Hong Kong's fertility wishes, policies and childcare services" and interviewed 457 citizens.
The survey found that more than 70% of the respondents tend not to consider having children, mainly because of "physical condition" (49.7%), "big financial burden" (49.4%) and "big responsibility for education and support" (45.9%).
At the same time, nearly 30% of the interviewees think of "family pressure" (31.8%) and "difficulty balancing work and family" (33.5%).
"Insufficient childcare services" (27.4%) is also one of the reasons for not considering childbearing.

In the survey, 59.3% of the respondents said that "priority in arranging public housing or HOS for families with children" can effectively increase the willingness to bear children. Director of the Women's Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions Liang Songyan urged the construction of more public housing and priority for families with children. In addition, interest-free and low-interest housing loans should also be provided to first-time homebuyers, so as to create a favorable reproductive environment for citizens.
