Plans for a new construction variant are now on the table for the Moosburg station.

The city council, however, remains undecided.

Moosburg

– Moosburg train station is anything but an eye-catcher.

The local councilors are largely unanimous on this.

Whether the current building will be prettied up, completely renovated or built from scratch is and remains an open question.

The presentation of the "general renovation" and "new building" variants by architects from Deutsche Bahn did not really convince the committee at their meeting on Monday.

So the big decision was once again adjourned without result.

After years of discussions about the Moosburg station, the railway architects had to draw up plans for both a renovation and a new building.

Architect Philipp Luy, who traveled from Berlin, showed on Monday that the building was in a very bad condition and that parts of the renovation would also have to be renewed.

Therefore, it was no surprise that when comparing the costs of the renovation (2.33 million euros) and the new building (2.34 million) are almost the same.

Cracks, moisture and water

In his inventory analysis, the architect explained that there were cracks in the masonry due to the vibrations from the railway operation, as well as damp walls and water in the basement area.

Above all, Philipp Luy made it clear that there are currently four different levels at the station.

For a barrier-free building, a new floor slab would also have to be installed during the renovation.

The railway experts recommended a new building that would be sustainable with a wooden building and secure against vandalism.

"The entire station area here is waiting to be kissed awake," said the architect, who wanted to provide an impetus for the development of the entire area.

"Most of us don't like the design that much"

On the part of the city councilors, enthusiasm was limited.

"I'll say it carefully," explained Rudolf Heinz (CSU), "most of us don't like the design that much." Something had to be done with the station, but the renovation of the building, which was not insignificantly contaminated with pollutants, was also one City volunteer service.

"Deutsche Bahn has let the building go to waste for many years," criticized Johannes Becher (Greens).

He wants to see the importance of Moosburg at the train station: “We are not a simple S-Bahn station, but a hub where thousands of people get on and off every day.

And you don't see that in the draft either.” Becher made it clear that you have to look very carefully at costs in excess of two million euros.

Refurbishment light unpredictable

In the discussion, several city councilors missed another variant with a slight renovation of the existing building.

When asked about the costs of a light variant, Heiner Hühnerbein from the Berlin railway said "that such a renovation is incalculable".

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Erwin Weber (CSU) was also disappointed that there were no reliable facts about a "light renovation".

"In this way, we could get a landmark in the city with fewer resources," said Weber.

Mayor Josef Dollinger (FW) said "that the experts may have more knowledge than we 25 city council members put together".

At the beginning of the meeting, he emphasized once again that there was still no alternative for him to build the important infrastructure facility.

"For me it's an old barracks," said Dollinger, "I want something nice and modern." Alluding to the remains of Stalag VII A, the mayor said, "we have enough barracks in the city."

Whether his wish will come true will only be decided at one of the upcoming city council meetings.

After the presentation of the new variants the point was finished without conclusions.

The city council continues to have an extremely difficult time with the question of how to set the course.
