In December, an audio recording was sent to the Lyon SPA investigation department and to the police.
On the soundtrack, you could hear the moans of a one-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix dog, named Lara, being beaten by her owner.
"
We also saw very clearly his executioner uttering death threats against him
", indicates the SPA of Lyon.
After hearing the soundtrack, the Villefranche-sur-Saône court authorized the police to search the home of the respondent, in the presence of an SPA inspector.
“
During their intervention, Lara was locked in the bedroom of an unsanitary apartment from which a nauseating odor emanated.
Backed into the corner of a messy room strewn with excrement, the poor dog was terrified, her tail between her legs.
She had neither water nor food at her disposal, was very thin and had abnormally long claws
,” says the Lyon SPA, which has cared for the animal since then.
The owner of the dog will be summoned to him in June to be judged.
Lara now available for adoption
As for Lara, after a few months of acclimatization, she is now available for adoption.
"
It is important to give a second chance to these animals, which have not asked for anything and which have only suffered misfortune
", confides Magalie Leblond, communication manager of the Lyon SPA.
The latter explains that it was complicated to restore confidence in this dog: “
She had lost confidence in the man.
It took a lot of work for our animal manager who gradually reestablished contact.
If today we offer her for adoption, it is because we believe that she can find a home.
She eats well and goes to the park.
»
However, the profiles of the adopters will be studied, specifies Magalie Leblond.
"
A lot of people will feel sorry for him and will offer to adopt him,"
she says.
But are they able to take good care of her
?
It is all the work of our teams to determine this.
But we have had very good stories in the past of extremely traumatized dogs who have resumed a normal life.
It requires big daily investments for adopters, but when you see the results, the gratitude they get is enormous
.”
Regular testimonials
In Lyon, Lara's case is not isolated and testimonies denouncing animal abuse are sent to the SPA "
every week
", explains the organization.
“
Each time we have to investigate to find out if it's serious.
The caller does not always know what abuse is.
It can be for example a person who calls for a dog left alone attached.
However, in the law, there is a certain authorized attachment length.
It may seem absurd, but if it respects the law, we cannot say that it is abuse
, ”concludes Magalie Leblond.
