Lyon: three new schools will bear the names of Eugénie Brazier, Frida Kahlo and Wangari Maathai

The city of Lyon has decided to give the names of famous women to three schools which will open at the start of the next school year.


This Thursday, the day after International Women's Day, the city of Lyon will vote for the names of three new schools named after famous women: Eugénie Brazier, Frida Kahlo and Wangari Maathai.

In Lyon, three new schools will bear the names of the illustrious Eugénie Brazier, Frida Kahlo and Wangari Maathai.

The first school, with a capacity of 15 classes, located in the Confluence district, will bear the name of Eugénie Brazier, the famous mother from Lyon whose starred establishment La Mère Brazier still bears the surname.

This establishment, located at 128 rue Antoine-Delandine, will open next September.

Consultation

The Frida Kahlo school, named after the famous Mexican painter, will also open its doors at the start of the next school year in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon.

Located at 1 place Elsa Cayat, it will have a capacity of 18 classes.

Also in the 7th arrondissement, the new school located at 10 rue Croix-Barret will bear the name of Wangari Maathai, Kenyan biologist, veterinary surgeon and environmental activist who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for his "contribution to

the sustainable development, democracy and peace

”.

It will also open next fall.

The names of these two schools in the 7th arrondissement were chosen after a consultation involving the families called to be educated in this new school group at the beginning of the school year in September 2023.
