The United States Embassy in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, issued a security alert today (Wednesday) warning of a possible terrorist attack on the subway system in the coming day.
The Brussels police increased security measures in response to the threat of an attack today - March 8.
Subway stations remain open in the city, transport company MIVB confirmed.
Police yesterday identified an email in which a man threatened to carry out an attack on the Brussels subway in the city center.
The Federal Police confirmed the report.
"We take this threat seriously, like any other threat," the federal police said.
"That is why we will be on high alert today. The railway police and various areas in Brussels will be on high alert."
