Update from March 8, 7:53 a.m .:

The wave of warning strikes expected for Wednesday in kindergartens, crèches and after-school care centers and clinics in Bavaria has begun.

Many daycare centers did not open in the morning, as a spokesman for the Verdi union said.

Sometimes there were offers for emergency care.

Exact numbers were not yet available, but he assumes a high participation with thousands of warning strikers, said the spokesman.

Strikes are planned almost everywhere in the Free State for Wednesday (see first report).

The focus is on day-care centers - including in Munich and the surrounding area, Augsburg, Kempten, Ingolstadt, Schweinfurt and Upper Franconia.

In Landsberg, the Lebenshilfe is also affected, in Munich the Pfennigparade and other facilities for the disabled.

In Middle Franconia, the aid for the disabled, the AWO facilities and the clinics in Nuremberg, Nürnberger Land, Schwabach, Fürth, Dr.

Erler, AN Regiomed and the district clinics in Central Franconia are on strike.

Demonstration trains are also planned in Nuremberg.

Strikes have been announced in Rosenheim at offices and in the RoMed clinics, in Bad Aibling at the rehabilitation clinic of the German pension insurance.

Strikes are also planned in Regensburg.

Verdi wants to push through 10.5 percent more wages for the 2.5 million federal and local employees nationwide, but at least 500 euros more a month.

Employers offer five percent more for a two-year term and a one-off payment of 2,500 euros.

The third round of negotiations is in three weeks.

Warning strikes in Bavaria: daycare centers closed, administration paralyzed - which institutions are affected

First report from March 7th:

Munich – The warning strikes in the public sector continue.

At the end of last week, public transport in particular was hit, and in numerous Bavarian cities it came to an almost complete standstill.

It continues this week, on Monday there were only individual actions by the Verdi union in Bavaria.

A major focus is expected on Wednesday (March 8), on International Women's Day, the social and educational services are particularly affected - including in day-care centers.

Warning strikes in Bavaria: These facilities were affected on Monday and Tuesday

According to Verdi, on Monday there was, among other things, a warning strike in the Amberg region, which, in addition to the city of Amberg, the municipality of Kümmersbruck and the Theuern sewage treatment plant, should also affect employees at the military training areas in Grafenwöhr, Vilseck and Hohenfels.

In Augsburg, the city administration was affected.

In Nuremberg and Passau there were smaller campaigns at the clinics without any impact on the patients.

Verdi extended the warning strikes in Augsburg on Tuesday.

According to the union, the employees should stop working there “from A for waste management to K for daycare to Z for customs”.

In the Allgäu, large parts of the public service in Lindenberg are to stop working.

Strike climax on Wednesday: Daycare centers in numerous cities remain closed

The highlight of the week is on Wednesday.

On International Women's Day, the predominantly female employees in the social and educational services are called upon to go on warning strikes - including in Augsburg, Ingolstadt, Munich, Middle Franconia, Marktoberdorf and in Upper Franconia - with a focus on Forchheim - and in Schweinfurt.

In some cases, clinics or city administrations will also be affected.

According to Verdi, there will be "restrictions on the company, including closures." The union asks for the understanding of parents, children and other people affected by the strike.

In addition to daycare centers, the following facilities may also be affected:

  • hospitals and clinics.

  • Municipal services: For example, citizens' offices and garbage disposal.

  • Leisure facilities (museums, swimming pools, etc.): In Ingolstadt, for example, the sports pool with sauna and the ice rink remain closed on Wednesday.

  • US troop training areas Grafenwoehr, Vilseck and Hohenfels.

The employees are also taking to the streets in the cities and putting pressure on them to increase their salaries by 10.5 percent, but at least 500 euros more and 200 euros for all trainees.

“We have been fighting for the upgrading of social work for many years.

On International Women's Day we want to make this clear in a special way," said Luise Klemens, regional manager of Verdi Bavaria.

More strikes planned in March

Further warning strikes are also planned for Thursday and Friday - but significantly fewer than on Wednesday.

The union wants to gradually increase its actions until March 27, the date of the next round of negotiations.

In the collective bargaining round, Verdi and the public employers are negotiating the salaries of a good 2.5 million state and federal employees.

The union is demanding wage increases of 10.5 percent.

This should compensate for the rapid inflation of the past two years.

The municipal employers' associations and the Federal Ministry of the Interior negotiate on the employers' side.

They reject the Verdi demand as too high.
