Today (Thursday), 36 chiefs of staff and generals in the IDF signed a petition opposing the refusal to serve in the reserves, against the background of the protests of the pilots and other reservists, who said they would stop their service as long as the legal revolution continues.

The senior officials, including Gabi Ashkenazi, Shaul Mofaz, Tal Russo, Gershon HaCohen and others, called "to keep the army above political controversy as part of the IDF being the people's army, and in view of the security challenges facing the State of Israel." The dozens of former senior officials turned to commanders and soldiers in the reserves, and

called for them to continue to serve for the defense of the country. "The upheavals experienced by Israeli society in recent weeks are alarming, and the expansion of the protest into regular and reserve IDF units is alarming," they explained, "the source of the reserve army's strength rests on the spirit of volunteerism of the reserve soldiers during routine and emergency situations , on land in the air and at sea, while maintaining unitary cohesion, evil and mutual guarantee,

In the letter, they also condemned the recent statements of members of the Knesset against the reserve officers.

"We call for respecting the feelings of those who are undecided and to allow a vigilant and respectful dialogue among the soldiers and commanders in the units, out of mutual respect, listening and appreciation and while maintaining the resilience, competence and integrity of the IDF", they concluded. In recent weeks, fighters and commanders from a number of IDF units, including Agoz

, Golani, Modi'in and the Air Force announced that they would refuse to go to the reserves due to the legal revolution.

The Chief of Staff expressed concern in closed conversations that if the IDF enters the political debate, this will harm the percentages of showing up for reserve service for training and operational activity, and in the long run will affect the motivation of the youth to enlist.

In a conversation with the reservists, the Chief of Staff stated that "refusal is a red line." The pilot who led the protest, Gilad Peled, was suspended from the Air Force.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the protest, saying that "the refusal threatens Israel's existence, and therefore it must not have a place in our ranks - Israeli society has always condemned the refusal. We have never given the refusal a foothold anywhere."
