The Minister for Ecological Transition discussed the outlines of the national plan for water management, unveiled in a few days.

If the rain is currently falling on part of France, some regions are experiencing "

a complicated situation

" with persistent drought.

The “

concerns

” are concentrated in particular “

in the Rhone corridor and in the Mediterranean rim

”, underlines this Thursday morning on Sud Radio the Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion.

For Christophe Béchu, "

the current situation is worse than last year on the same date

", adding that "

all the lights are red

".

Over the last 18 months, 15 have had a rain deficit.

A national plan will [moreover] be unveiled in a few days with around fifty measures

”, specifies Christophe Béchu.

This plan will mention provisions concerning the "

reuse of waste water, the recovery of rainwater, the fight against leaks or awareness raising on its use of drinking water

".

Every day, the French use "

150 liters of water

", recalls the minister, "

we live in an illusion of abundance

".

But water is life, so you have to be careful not to waste it

,” he adds.

A planned increase in the price of water

Christophe Béchu does not rule out a general increase in the price of water, currently around 4 euros per cubic meter.

He also notes a “

deconcentrated management

” of water in France.

However, the national plan will mention "

a financing part

" for individuals and municipalities, in particular to finance "

rain recovery

" tools.

Last week, the minister already summoned the prefects to issue water restriction orders "

from now on

" and not to "

have a shaking hand

".

Last summer,

“we had up to 700 municipalities affected by drinking water problems.

If we do not take measures upstream, we run the risk of having an even higher figure next summer and over larger territories ”

with larger agglomerations concerned, he had warned.
