Local councilor Thomas Lindbüchl joked that the people of Grünwald and their cars can't drive 30 km/h.

His statement behind it was different.

Grünwald

– In Grünwald, the speed limit is 30 km/h for almost the entire area, around 95 of the road network have been regulated in this way for 15 years.

You can only drive faster on five collecting roads.

That's the rest of the council.

A humorous statement by Thomas Lindbüchl (CSU) has now attracted nationwide attention, according to which the cars in Grünwald are “of such a size that I can’t drive 30 when I step on the gas pedal.” That was meant to be funny.

Of course, the big sleds can go slower;

Thomas Lindbüchl has much more doubts about the will of many drivers, and that is why further speed limits are not helpful either.

How slow you can drive SUVs

In media reports across the country it was said that this statement by the CSU member had persuaded the municipal council not to introduce a 30 km/h speed limit in Grünwald.

Because it is simply impossible to drive so slowly with the big sled.

However, no such connection was evident at the meeting.

The somewhat belated carnival joke was taken up with humor in the session instead.

Motion at the town meeting: general speed limit

A motion from the citizens' assembly to introduce a general speed limit on Grünwald's streets was the basis for the 45-minute debate.

From the point of view of the administration, such a regulation is out of the question because there is no legal basis for it in the road traffic regulations.

The Tempo 30 zones are only permitted for less busy roads.

But not on collecting roads such as Dr.-Max-, Robert-Koch, Gabriel-von-Seidl-Straße.

Restrictions are only possible here if safety plays a specific role, such as in front of the elementary school or next to the amusement park.

This assessment did not go unchallenged.

The subject has been busy for over 20 years

Achim Zeppenfeld (SPD) has taken the trouble to sift through the minutes of previous municipal council meetings.

He found out that the former SPD municipal councilors Renate Nöbel and Christa Okroy had already campaigned for 30 km/h zones in the municipal area in 2002.

"The topic has occupied us for more than 20 years." At least the residents of the remaining collecting streets with a speed limit of 50 km/h continue to burn the topic on their nails.

He applied for the planning office Lang and Burkhardt to be commissioned.

The specialist planners had already worked out the original plans for Tempo 30 in Grünwald and should now check what improvements are possible within the legal framework.

Traffic has become heavier in the meantime

Ingrid Reinhart-Maier (Greens) finds the road traffic regulations very restrictive.

The traffic has become denser over the years, more people live on the streets and a traffic calming measure is important.

For Oliver Schmidt (PBG), the main problem with collecting roads is that they encourage speeding.

He lives on a street where the low-loaders rush by at 50 to 60 km/h at the moment.

In his opinion, something must be done and improved, everything else borders on gross negligence.

He was concerned with concrete dangers.

The original plan of Grünwald

Robert Zettel (CSU) recalled the "Urplan von Grünwald", on which the collecting roads were already listed.

If you do without them, the traffic will look for another route.

Traffic is penetrating areas that have hardly been affected until now.

Thomas Lindbüchl (CSU) then set the final chord of the debate with his witty statement that the people of Grünwald are not particularly interested in these signs in principle.

In the 30 zone, 50 is driven.

Only parked cars would slow down the urge to drive in the Isar valley community.

Lindbüchl knows his fellow citizens and the cars that are unsuitable for Tempo 30.

Attention irony!

The municipal council, who is also chairman of the Friends of Grünwald, added as a point that he himself had problems driving the 30 with his car.

Application for a test attempt submitted

A general speed limit of 30 km/h will not exist in Grünwald for the time being, the elected representatives agreed on that.

After the meeting, Achim Zeppenfeld proposed that a traffic test be carried out on Kaiser-Ludwig- and Gabriel-von-Seidl-Straße.

As a test, the maximum speed should be reduced from 50 to 30 km/h along the entire route.
