"A gesture of absolute gravity that offends the entire city and its history. We have taken action to remove the writings and to report the incident to the competent bodies, hoping that those responsible will be identified and severely punished".
So the mayor of Ferrara Alan Fabbri after a word 'Jew' appeared in the city with an arrow pointing to a shop window.
"We will not let this act discredit the city. I thank those who promptly reported the incident, allowing us to intervene promptly. The best response to the imbecility of the perpetrators - added Fabbri - is immediate mobilization and collective condemnation, to suffocate the madness of those who would like to bring our lands back to situations that recall dark times. I express my closeness to the shop owner and solidarity with the entire Jewish community of Ferrara, with whom we are working, with great common commitment, to promote the extraordinary tradition and Jewish culture which is the heritage of our city and of our history, in every field", concluded the mayor.
