The state of Texas, in the southern United States, is shocked by heartbreaking news: the death of two 13-year-old twins.

Jefferson and Josué Pérez had gone to a Galveston beach together with relatives to fulfill a dream, to see the sea.

For reasons that are still being investigated, both got into the water on the afternoon of Sunday, March 5, and disappeared.

The body of one of them was located on Tuesday.

And this Thursday the local police found the other corpse.

In November of last year, both had been reunited with their mother after 10 years, since the woman had fled from Honduras to the United States a decade ago.

It all ended in a real drama.

In November they had come to the US from Honduras to join their mother.

hard childhood

Last November, Josué and Jefferson made it to Houston, Texas, to be reunited with their mother whom they had not seen in 10 years.

The minors were happy to have fled the violence and the situation they were experiencing in their country. When they crossed the border, they turned themselves in to the Border Patrol and assured that they did not want to return to Honduras.

On Sunday they were fulfilling one more dream by visiting the sea for the first time

The brothers were last seen on the west side of the Pleasure Pier at 4:30 p.m., about 20 yards from the shore, the Galveston Beach Patrol said.

In the video you can see the minors in the water, their family was watching them but suddenly they were lost at sea.

"My soul and my heart are totally destroyed but we keep faith and hope. Please, I ask for all united prayers to be able to find my other son," said the mother through a post on her Facebook account. The body of the child was located this Thursday.

The sign warned of the danger of the area.

As confirmed by the family to the police,

neither of the two minors knew how to swim.

On the beach there were signs indicating the danger of the area and the prohibition of bathing in those waters.

In the event of an accident, experts recommend never swimming against the current, but doing it parallel to the beach.

The drowned children were 13 years old.

Gaby Osorto, mother of brothers Jefferson Pérez and Josué Pérez, is an immigrant from Honduras in Houston, Texas, who left her country ten years ago.

A few months ago the woman was finally able to bring her children to join her.

The tragedy shook the Hispanic community.

At what age to learn to swim

Specialists recommend that children learn to swim between the ages of three and four, although it will always depend on the maturational state of the child.

At that age, the objective is for the child to learn to float and move the lower extremities, “in a doggie way”, and to dive.

Another aspect that must be taken into account is how to teach a child to swim so that he does not get bored.

It is best to go to swimming lessons.

However, parents can point you to some essentials for surviving in the water.

Learning to swim is not just a distraction: it is a matter of safety so that the water does not pose a problem for children.
