Withered flowers, stuck-on chewing gum, footprints, paint and even urine... The memorial erected on the Promenade des Anglais, in Nice, in memory of the 86 dead of the attack of July 14, 2016, would be in prey to multiple incivilities.
An unacceptable situation that the association "Promenade des Anges" has been denouncing for several months.
“Since last November we have been writing to the town hall and sending it photos so that it can intervene but it is not progressing
, assures Célia Viale, the co-president of the association.
We also asked to be received to discuss the securing of the memorial, without return.
We are aware that the monument is installed on a place of passage, and we are not asking that a glass bubble be installed, but at least that it be raised.
The latter also believes that the memorial suffers from a lack of
"legibility"
about what it is and why it is there.

In fact, it was on the Prom 'that the terrorist had entered at the wheel of a truck on the evening of the national holiday, fatally mowing down 86 pedestrians.
“It is therefore here that the memorial has its place.
It would not be logical to install it elsewhere, on the Castle Hill for example"
, continues Célia Viale, explaining that the town hall was initially hesitant at the idea of erecting it on this very touristic route of the city.
A town hall meeting scheduled for March 16
Contacted, the municipality condemns
"with the greatest firmness the incivilities observed on the memorial"
.
She also ensures that the latter is “regularly” maintained and that
“agents come regularly to remove faded flowers in particular and make reports if necessary.”
In addition, it specifies that a
“long-established
meeting will take place in the coming days with the families of the victims to put in place new protective measures;
several proposals are under consideration;
and also to raise awareness of its meaning and history.”
This meeting must take place on March 16.
