For the second year in a row, the National Book Center (CNL) - in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education - invites the French, from the classroom to the company, to interrupt their activities for at least 15 minutes and to open a book.
The goal is to put reading back at the heart of everyday life.

For this second edition of the national "quarter of an hour of reading", our wish is that young people, and the French in general, reconnect with reading.
Faced with a form of disaffection with this long-term practice, the objective is to invite everyone to find or rediscover a taste for books.
We launched this operation last year, as part of the "reading, great national cause" project, drawing inspiration from what the Ministry of National Education has been implementing in classes since 2018. The idea is to increase the number of readers and encourage young people in particular to read.
Because the sector will not be able to do without this public in the future.
What is this initiative based on?
Every two years for ten years, our barometer on the evolution of practices shows that we devote less and less time to reading.
In 2022, the study
Young French people and reading
(Ipsos) revealed that those aged between 7 and 25 spend an average of 4 hours a day in front of a screen, while they do not read much more than 3 hours a day. week.
Additionally, 47% often do other things at the same time, such as texting, social media or watching videos.
Without denying the importance of screens, we want to change this trend.
What are the benefits of reading, in your opinion?
Regarding the effects produced by the "quarter of an hour of reading" in class, teachers agree that it allows students to relax, develop the desire to read, pleasure, and stimulate Memory.
I think that's the case at any age.
Personally, the book has always occupied an important place in my life.
We all have a personal relationship to reading.
In my case, it is the only thing that calms me down and on which I can rest.
It's my spine, basically.
