A fire in the school toilet area at the Josef elementary school in Würzburg triggered a large-scale operation by the fire brigade.
More than 40 emergency services were on site, more than 100 primary school students were evacuated.
Würzburg – Shortly after classes started on Thursday morning (9 March), students and teachers at the Josef elementary school in Würzburg noticed the smell of smoke.
Smoke and the smell of smoke came from the school toilet area, prompting the evacuation of the building.
About 120 elementary school students were evacuated by the teachers and the caretaker.

The fire in the elementary school triggered a large-scale operation by the Würzburg fire brigade.
More than 40 emergency services from the professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigade went out to prevent worse things from happening.
The fire in the toilet area was quickly brought under control and extinguished.
According to the official press release from the Bavarian police, none of the approximately 120 primary school students, teachers or staff were injured.

In addition to the rescue workers, several patrols from the Würzburg police and the criminal police drove to the site and took over the investigation.
There was evidence that the fire was deliberately set.
According to the first investigation results, the suspicion is directed against a student.
The material damage caused is estimated at around 10,000 euros.
