Verdi has called for industrial action.

The background to this is the hitherto unsuccessful collective bargaining with the aviation security association BDLS.

Berlin/Schoenefeld - The Verdi union is calling for a warning strike at the capital's BER airport on Monday.

Verdi announced on Saturday that longer waiting times and even flight cancellations are to be expected.

The previously unsuccessful collective bargaining with the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) was cited as the background.

According to Verdi, it has been in negotiations with the BDLS for years to increase the time supplements for night, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday work and to achieve better collective bargaining arrangements for paying overtime for security and service staff at commercial airports.

The union is demanding that aviation security workers be paid appropriately for working at inconvenient hours.

The surcharges have not been improved since 2006, and since 2013 an increase has been repeatedly negotiated, emphasized Verdi.

It was most recently agreed in early 2019 to continue negotiations on this.

According to Verdi, they were recorded in January and continued in February 2020.

Because of the pandemic, the negotiations were not continued by the BDLS.

According to the union, the BDLS was only willing to negotiate the demands after a new agreement in the 2022 wage round.

The employers have not yet submitted an offer.

According to the union, the strikers will gather on Monday from 8 a.m. in front of the BER terminal on Willy-Brandt-Platz.

Verdi expects around 300 participants.
