Florencia Borelli and Eulalio Muñoz kept the 10k of Vicente López

The test was carried out again after a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Despite the heat, it was a sports party.

The oppressive heat of the last weeks, and that still has not subsided, was a determining factor.

However, between the start that took place at 7.30 and a light breeze that came from the river a few meters away, the weather for the development of the 10k of Vicente López on the morning of this Sunday the 12th was a little more favourable.

At least, it allowed the elite athletes -with a notable Florencia Borelli and the Olympian Eulalio Muñoz at the forefront in men- as well as more than a thousand enthusiastic fans to

complete the test

, with the support of the local fire brigade, the extensive medical and hydration device.

Taking these weather conditions into account, Florencia Borelli's performance was directly spectacular and her mark of 32 minutes and 48 seconds was even

close to her own national record

that she has shared with Daiana Ocampo since last season (32:29).

The women's podium was completed by Antonella Guerrero (36:33) and Fernanda Oropel (36:58).

After his international campaign last season, his titles and his records, Borelli is the great figure of Argentine athletics.

From Mar del Plata, at 30 years old, he now faces his preparation for his greatest dream: the Olympic Games in Paris.

“I couldn't miss it, this was my last street or road race for the moment since the track season is coming up.

I am going to participate in local tournaments and then I will do three months of training and competitions in Spain, aiming to reach a track test at the World Cup in Budapest, in August.

I also have the Pan American Games in Chile and for next year, the marathon”, he recounted.

And although his performance on the Vicente López circuit was superlative, he said that “despite the heat, I felt strong.

And it gives me a lot of confidence for what is coming”.

Eulalio Muñoz from Chubut, Argentine representative in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 and in the World Championships in Eugene 2022, took over the lead among the men and in one of his best performances in recent times he topped the men's classification with 30:15.

The middle distance runners Fabián Manrique (30:22) and Diego Lacamoire (30:28) were his escorts, and then Pablo Toledo from Santiago (30:36), Alexis Corrías from Rio Negro (30:44) and local Nahuel Di Leva ( 30:59), all under 31 minutes, which -under this climate- reveals the high level of the test.

“It was very difficult for everyone, but I am very happy to have participated and won.

Now I am going to prepare my participation in the Pampa Traviesa Marathon”, said Muñoz.

Federico Bruno was finally unable to participate, while Ignacio Erario from Mendoza, another favorite, had to leave after the 4th kilometer due to physical discomfort.

The 10K of Vicente López returned

In other categories, they won Norma Ramos (51:13) in the women's wheelchair, Víctor Prestes (52:49) in the B-1 visually impaired, Angeles Báez (69:31) in the B-2/3 visually impaired and Marcelo Sarmiento (49:45) in the same category of men.

It took off with a temperature of 27°C, which increased slightly during the development of the test.

The organization decided to increase the usual supply of hydration stations, including in the start area, and during the previous days, weather forecasts were sent to all participants (shorter warm-up, avoid exposure to the sun, adapt the race plan to the environmental conditions, hydrate at every opportunity, use a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen).

The support provided by the firefighters was very important for all the runners, who contributed to the discharge of water on the circuit and wetting the athletes who were passing, and there was a large doctor equipped with the best technology, including eleven automatic defibrillators .

The family atmosphere, the presence of running teams and even the "team" made up of the members of the Grenadier Regiment on Horseback, among others, contributed to making this event a true sporting event.

The 10k of Vicente López was able to be held again after the long pause due to the pandemic -the previous edition was in 2019- and brought together several of our country's elite athletes.

Presented by the Municipality of Vicente López, it was also sponsored by Jacana (official clothing of the Argentine Athletics Confederation) and the participation of Acuve, Clarín, Eco-Gatorade, Emergencias, FotoRun, Granix, Instituto Asegurador Mercantil, Kynet and Tropical .

The test was supervised by the Argentine Athletics Confederation on an official circuit, measured and certified by World Athletics, in whose calendar it was included, granting points for the world ranking of Elite athletes.

This 10k run by Vicente López marked the beginning of the Ñandú Association's 2023 calendar, which will include the most popular competitions in the region (the 21k Buenos Aires/Argentine Half Marathon Championship on August 27 and the Buenos Aires International Marathon for on September 24), in addition to the 10k of San Isidro / National Road Championship for November 5.
