The Salem family, whose home was at the center of tensions in the neighborhood in East Jerusalem, received a 21-day eviction notice from the municipality in preparation for its demolition. The building in which the house is located was purchased a few years ago by right-wing activist and city council member Yoni Yosef. If the demolition does take place - it will take place at the most sensitive time of the year

A demolition order was placed today (Monday) at the entrance of the Salem family's house in Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem.

The home of the family, 11 people old, is at the heart of the dispute over its ownership, and has been at the center of tensions in the neighborhood in recent years.

According to the municipality's order, the family must vacate the house within 21 days before its demolition.

If the demolition does take place, it will perhaps take place at the most sensitive time of the year - during the month of Ramadan.

Despite repeated attempts by the security establishment and the political bodies to lower the height of the flames in the area - it seems that the Jerusalem municipality is determined to carry out the demolition.

The building in which the house is located is owned by a member of the city council, the right-wing activist Yoni Yosef, who purchased it a few years ago.

The demolition order for the family's house was issued for the first time about three years ago, and the court even ruled in favor of the municipality and ordered the house to be demolished in August - as part of a compromise arrangement that the structure will be demolished by February 2021. Last year, close to Ramadan, the court ordered to delay the family's eviction until further notice,

between The permit is not to escalate the tense situation in East Jerusalem even more.

The municipality stated that "the demolition order in question is not planned for implementation in the next two months".
