The Constitution Committee of the Knesset this morning (Monday) discussed changing the composition of the Committee for the Selection of Judges.
Alongside this, the committee will discuss the repeal of the High Court of Justice's disqualification of basic laws. This, as part of the discussions on the main part of the reform - in preparation for its approval in the second and third reading. Rothman at the beginning of the discussion.
"I invited the authors of the document here so that we can hear the proposal from them."
This is another debate from a marathon of debates that the coalition will hold this week, in which they will present the Albashan-Friedman-Island outline that Justice Minister Yariv Levin and committee chairman MK Simcha Rothman saw as a text that could be used to soften the original reform they proposed.
Until now, the coalition has not yet decided whether to soften the text of the reform or wait for the president's outline, and formulate a position accordingly.
One of the drafters of the compromise, a champion in the defense of Giora Island, withdrew from the outline and does not participate in the discussion.

The Knesset plenum is expected to vote today in first reading on the bill that will allow the Knesset to re-enact laws rejected by the High Court with a majority of 61 members of the Knesset. The proposal, known as the "surrogacy clause", will be brought to the Knesset for approval due to pressure from the ultra-orthodox factions and especially from Torah Judaism who see it as a solution to legislation The issue of exemption from enlistment in the IDF due to the status of "his teachings and his art" which was invalidated for years by the High Court. In addition to this, the section that reduces the High Court's judicial review of ordinary laws will also be approved.
The coalition also advanced for approval in the first reading the proposal that would prevent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from being declared impeached except under exceptional conditions and with a large majority of 90 members of the Knesset.
This is a proposal designed to prevent the High Court or the legal advisor to the government, attorney Gali Beharev Miara, from taking Netanyahu to prison, this against the background of petitions recently filed on the subject.
Earlier, the special committee that discussed the bill in the Knesset is expected to approve it this morning for a first reading.
