Google may have shut down its cloud streaming service, but that doesn't mean it won't offer the technology to other companies in the industry

At the beginning of the year, Google announced that it was closing the Stadia service - the streaming service for games through the cloud, and although many assumed that this would be the end of the technology giant's attempts to establish itself in the gaming industry, this is probably not the case.

According to a report by the Axios website, Google intends to offer the cloud services they have developed to various distributors in the industry who will use its technology, mainly for Live Service games.

Google was faced with a decision and realized that the Stadia service was not gaining the acceleration and success it expected, and had to close the whole business.

But this does not mean that the technology will go down the drain, and it was decided to use it and help external companies.

This will be her way to compete with giants like Amazon or Microsoft and stay relevant.

Jack Boser, head of the technology department in the cloud at Google said: "There was a moment when we had to decide about Stadia, and then we realized that with a service we are in an excellent position to help the industry build itself."

Google will offer its customers a package of services that will include access to game servers, cloud storage and information and data management.

All of these will help distributors who choose to publish Live Service games (such as Call of Duty, Fortnite, FIFA, and many more) which are only gaining momentum over the years. Buser concluded by saying "that Google remains committed to games and the entire gaming industry".

The Stadia service was first announced in 2019 and lasted for about 4 years until 2023. It offered players access to a library of games via the cloud via mobile devices and browsers as a nation, and despite the ambitious promises, not enough players signed up for the service.

Despite the failure of Stadia, many claim that the technology itself was ahead of its time, and many in the industry (such as Xbox CEO Phil Spencer) speculate that as time progresses and the technology develops - it will become a standard in the future and the use of cloud streaming for games will become more common and wider.
