With an acceptable turnout on a very hot day in Río Negro, María Emilia Soria prevailed in the General Roca elections and was re-elected as head of the municipality.
She defeated the list sponsored by the Juntos Somos Río Negro (JSRN) front, led by former governor Alberto Weretilneck, and to which La Cámpora and sectors of provincial radicalism formally joined.
The former deputy, and sister of the Minister of Justice, Martín Soria, was victorious with
59.48% of the votes
.
With a register of 84,496 voters, there was an attendance close to 70%.
In the days before, Victoria Tolosa Paz passed through the city to support the mayor.
With this result, General Roca
will exceed two decades with a president named Soria
at the head of the municipality.
The dynasty started with Carlos Soria in 2003, when he took the mayorship from radicalism.
Then he was re-elected in 2007, his son Martín succeeded him in 2011 and won again in 2015, and in 2019 his sister Emilia followed him.
Carlos Banacloy, the JSRN candidate, came second.
Former Provincial Production Minister, he had received the support of Governor Arabela Carreras and Weretilneck, aspiring to return to power in the April 16 elections.
Banacloy took five lists of councilors as collectors, one of them from radicalism, which in that district broke with its partners from Together for Change, and another aligned with La Cámpora.
At nightfall,
Banacloy acknowledged defeat
and said that he called the mayor to congratulate her.
At that point, even when there was a low percentage of the votes counted, the festivities broke out in the Soria bunker.
Of the eight councilors, they estimated that their list (Passion for Rock) would get seven.
In third place was the businessman Gastón Soto, from Cambia General Roca, made up of the PRO and the Civic Coalition.
Further back were Mario Alvarez (Popular and Social Unity), Alberto Castro (Left Front) and Elena Correa (Nuevo Mas).
