This woman, mother of 5 children, was found unresponsive at her home, with stab wounds, the prosecution told AFP.
An autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday to identify the cause of his death.
Rise of feminicides
His companion and father of five children, aged 38, was arrested and placed in police custody in the process, added the prosecution, specifying that the couple was unknown to the justice system and the gendarmerie services.
The number of feminicides increased by 20% in France in 2021 compared to the previous year, with 122 women killed under the blows of their spouse or ex-spouse, according to the latest figures available from the Ministry of the Interior.
