On video: undercover agents in the south (Israel Police spokeswoman)
24 suspects, residents of the south and the Bedouin diaspora, were arrested in the early morning (Monday) on suspicion of serious crimes after the activity of two undercover agents who framed them in an operation conducted by the central unit of the Negev region in the southern district in recent months.
The offenses attributed to the suspects, five of whom are targets of the police, are violent offenses, extortion of sponsorship fees (protection), drug trafficking and possession of weapons against the law.
During the covert operation, two secret agents were infiltrated into criminal gangs, who managed to gain the trust of criminals and collect evidence against them.
The agents carried out dozens of transactions of purchasing different types of drugs as well as weapons such as guns and grenades.
During the night, about 350 police officers, led by the Negev police chief and with the assistance of Negev and Kish YSM police officers, the Yoav unit, Kalbani South, the South MGB and other forces, raided the houses of the suspects, among others in Berhat, Tel Sheva, Tarbin, Beer Sheva, Arad and Ashdod.
At the end of the searches, the arrested suspects were taken for questioning at the Negev District Court and brought to extend their detention at the Beer Sheva Magistrate's Court.
Nachshon Nagler, commander of the Negev Region, said: "Employing an agent and introducing him into crime groups in the field of drugs and serious violence is an essential and necessary tool for targeted activity against the leaders of the pyramid who perpetrate crime in the region, and this as part of a broad activity that we carry out."
