The Minister of Defense, Yoav Galant addresses the reservists.
March 5, 2023 (Communication of the Minister of Defense)
Fifty ministers and Knesset members from the coalition sent a letter this evening (Tuesday) to Defense Minister Galant, in which they demanded the immediate release of the four residents of Samaria who were recently arrested on an administrative arrest warrant.
Their arrest was signed and approved by the Minister of Defense - a few days after the attack in Hawara.
The scathing letter, which was initiated by MK Limor Son Har-Malech from the Otzma Yehudit party, is signed by, among others, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir, Minister of Communications Shlomo Karai, Minister Orit Struck and Idit Silman, as well as a long list of ministers, deputy ministers and other MKs.
These criticized the imposition of the orders and called it a "predatory measure" carried out in a "move that blatantly bypassed the court".
"Toward the end of his term of office, former Defense Minister Benny Gantz issued an administrative arrest warrant for an extended period against two residents of Samaria - Elhi Carmeli and Abraham Yair Yard," the MKs described at the beginning of their letter. "The warrants were issued against them without a trial and without evidence, while ignoring the ruling of The sentence that ordered their release.
Since then, the two have been imprisoned for over three months - after Gantz ignored the appeal of forty Knesset members from the current coalition factions who called on him to cancel the orders," they added.

"Last week, in the midst of a wave of terrorism, Minister Galant decided to sign two new arrest warrants for two residents of Samaria - David Chai Hesdai and Zadok HaCohen, as well as to extend the detention of Elhi Carmeli by another three months. The imposition of the warrants earned our government the dubious title of the government that detained "Managing the largest number of settlers in the last thirty years," the MKs claimed, while criticizing the minister's decision
. The MKs
"In all four cases, the court released the detainees immediately. If there are still suspicions against them, the police will be respectful and open a criminal investigation as in any other criminal incident in the country."
