The fire affects the Escarnosa mountain and continues in a southeasterly direction "pushed by the mistral wind, present in the area throughout the day."
“The flame is intense and has created numerous secondary foci.
Intensive work is being done on the tail and left flank of the fire," the statement added.
The fire has impacted an area of crops, but the secondary sources have allowed the flames to continue advancing.
The 112 emergency telephone number has received 291 calls until 8:00 p.m. warning of the fire in the Escarnosa mountain in Calafell (Tarragona), as reported in a tweet.
This is the second fire declared in the last 24 hours in Catalonia, which is experiencing a climate crisis due to drought and scarcity of water.
The Firefighters extinguished a declared fire last morning between La Selva del Camp and Vilaplana, in Tarragona.
