Initiated for more than a year, the construction site of the future hospital on the island of Nantes should be completed in 2027. After the laying of the first stone in January 2022, a new stage has just been reached with the announcement of the distribution of services in future buildings.

During the 2020-2021 period, department heads and medical representatives were consulted in order to build a coherent distribution of disciplines.

In concrete terms, alongside the emergency room, operating theaters/imaging and the woman-child-adolescent centre, four hospital buildings will be dedicated to the following departments: one for surgery, the other for oncology, the third for neurology and vascular pathologies and the last will be for medicine (rheumatology, dermatology, pneumology...).

In the future configuration of the CHU, a third of the Nord Laennec hospital, located in Saint-Herblain, will also be maintained.

There will be no major surgery here, but the medicine beds will cater for longevity and chronic pathologies, the latter being one of the corollaries of the aging population.
Within this framework, there is, for example, a cardiology, pulmonology, internal medicine department or a continuing care unit.
Will also be present: an intensive care unit - with the possibility of increasing capacity in times of high tension (+14 to 28 beds) - and general geriatric medicine beds.
