The Ecclesiastical Forum, one of the drafters of the legal revolution bills, stated today (Wednesday) that a compromise can be reached through the President's House - but continues to fortify its position regarding the committee for the selection of judges, the main point of contention between the coalition and the opposition.

In a statement on behalf of the congregation, it was stated that "the issue of the composition of the committee for the selection of judges remains in dispute. We believe that a solution can be reached that will cancel the veto held by the representatives of the Supreme Court, give the coalition an advantage in the committee, and also increase the influence of the opposition. This is, among other things, through the use of professional representatives on behalf of the coalition ".

At the Kehalat forum, President Yitzhak Herzog was called upon to "adopt these principles, which in our opinion reflect a proper compromise that will fulfill the main goals of the reform, will be very beneficial to the regime in Israel, will provide an answer to the concerns expressed by opponents of the reform, and will restore trust between the government authorities and among all sections of the public in Israel."

According to the Ecclesiastical Forum, "Our hope is that the passing of an agreed upon compromise outline will help to heal the public atmosphere. Our hope is that the amendment will allow progress towards the adoption of an agreed constitution for the State of Israel, which will also include a bill of rights."

They also added that they "respect other opinions and proper protest. At the same time, we condemn irresponsible behavior that could damage the strength and prosperity of the State of Israel, the cohesion of the security forces and the possibility of building a good common future for all parts of society in Israel."

The revolution planned by the government includes a series of significant changes in the legal system, such as a determination that only an expanded composition of the High Court of Justice can invalidate legislation passed by the Knesset. Another step of the revolution, designed to strengthen the government's hand vis-à-vis the court, is the establishment of a superseding clause that will nullify decisions of the High Court by a majority of only 61 members of the Knesset, as well as changing the composition of the committee for the selection of judges so that it is fully controlled by the coalition.

The reform also deals with weakening the power of the legal advisors to the government, so that their position will not bind the government, and with eliminating the reason for reasonableness, which, among other things, significantly limits the court's ability to intervene in the appointment of senior officials.
