The first tenants have already moved in: the Freising flagship project is already coming to life.

But: It will be even more expensive.

Freising

- "There is good news and less good news," said the head of the building department, Robert Naujokat, at the finance committee meeting on Monday.

The reason: the first people have already moved into the multi-generation house on Katharina-Mair-Straße.

The new building is a showpiece of modern building and living culture.

However, and this was the bad news, the costs for this went up again – by 750,000 euros to a total of 30.75 million euros.

"There is an incredibly high level of public interest in the multi-generational house," explained Naujokat.

And: The first tenants had already moved in in February.

Naujokat showed the current project status with numerous pictures: from the one-room apartments to the family apartments with up to five rooms.

The attractive common rooms with launderettes and a multi-generational café as a central meeting place are also finished.

"Urban gardening is of course also possible," reports Naujokat - either on the roof terrace or in the outdoor area of the garden, in which numerous play equipment is installed.

The office for the street worker is still empty

This is where Susanne Günther (Greens) intervened, who wanted to know whether the playground equipment itself was also barrier-free - i.e. suitable for wheelchair users.

However, according to Naujokat, this is not the case.

Also housed in the multi-generation house is an office for street workers.

However, they still have to be acquired.

The city of Freising is currently desperately looking for suitable workers, but cannot find any.

What Naujokat also noted: "The greenery on the facade is already growing - in three to four years everything should be overgrown".

So much for the good news.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The bad: The project will be even more expensive.

Of course, the cost increases in the construction are not new: the original cost planning from 2018 was set at 25.65 million euros, which was significantly lower.

According to Naujokat, the effects of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have repeatedly caused “massive price increases”, so it was necessary to constantly readjust the costs.

"Often we didn't get any offers at all and had to advertise several times," said the Head of the Building Department.

His latest calculation: The multi-generational house will cost 750,000 euros more – but these are included in the 2023 budget.

The project has exemplary character

"I'm glad that we had the confidence to take on this project," emphasized Monika Schwind (FSM), who also pointed out that potential savings had always been checked with this project anyway.

Because the multi-generational house has an absolute "role model" for them, this should not fail now because of the additional costs.

What Günther was also interested in: "What will happen to the street workers' office if we still can't find any?

Will the office then be rented out?” “If necessary, the office can even be converted into an apartment at any time,” explained Naujokat.
