Green light from the Eurochamber to the so-called green houses directive for the energy efficiency of buildings throughout Europe.

The green light of the Plenary came with 343 votes in favour, 216 votes against and 78 abstentions.

The text was amended by the European Parliament in several parts.

Green light to the

revision of the regulation on shared commitments in the fight against climate change

which provides for a maximum permitted level of greenhouse gas emissions in Member States from transport, buildings and agriculture until 2030. The text approved today by 486 votes to 132 and 10 abstentions establishes binding annual reductions for greenhouse gas emissions for road transport, building heating, agriculture, small industrial plants and waste management for every EU member state and currently regulates around 60% of all EU emissions.

With the revision approved by the plenary, the regulation increases the EU-wide 2030 greenhouse gas reduction target from 30% to 40% compared to 2005 levels. For the first time, all EU countries '

The EU will now have to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with targets ranging between 10 and 50% depending on per capita GDP and cost effectiveness.

Member States will also have to ensure each year that they do not exceed their annual greenhouse gas emission allocation.

Also approved by the plenary with 479 votes to 97 and 43 abstentions was

a revision of the regulation on land use, land use change and the forestry sector

(Lulufc) designed to improve natural carbon absorption systems.

The text states that the EU's 2030 target for net removals of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the soil, land use change and forestry sectors will be set at 310 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, or around 15% more than today.

This new EU target is expected to further reduce EU greenhouse gas emissions in 2030 from 55% to around 57% below 1990 levels.
