The president of Nintendo in the US explains why it was decided to raise the price of Zelda Tears of The Kingdom to $70, and makes it clear that this will not be the standard for every new game

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo)

Just last month, Nintendo announced that the new game in the Zelda series, Tears of The Kingdom, which should arrive next month, will cost about $70.

This announcement put Nintendo in line with developers and distributors who have announced price increases for games in the current generation.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press website, Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo in the US, addressed the decision to raise the price, and assured that it will not necessarily be the standard from here on: "We look at what the game has to offer." "I think fans will find (the new Zelda) an

experience An amazing game that embraces the senses.

The price reflects the type of experience players can expect to have in this spotty title.

This does not necessarily reflect the prices of our other titles in the future.

It's actually a fairly common price in the US, Europe and the rest of the world, but it will vary depending on the game itself," Bowser concluded.

Just for comparison, the Metroid Prime remake that was released last month (and you can read our review of it here) cost about $30.

With the launch of the new generation of consoles, quite a few companies started charging a higher price for their big titles: Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, Activision-Blizzard, EA, Square Enix, Gearbox - all started charging an extra $10 for game versions of the PlayStation consoles 5 and the Xbox Series X\S.

Until now the companies have justified the price increases due to the extensive use of technologies (such as Ray Tracing) in new games which has become very common.

This is not necessarily the case with Nintendo and the old Switch console, which does not stand up to the same line of hardware compared to its competitors.

Despite this, the players who are looking forward to the game (and I am among them) really hope that this price increase will indeed be justified and Nintendo will deliver the goods once again, and will be able to match the same level as the previous game in the series.

Maybe even bypass it.

The Legends of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom is expected to be released on May 12 this year.

This is the sequel title to Breath of The Wild which was released with the launch of the Nintendo Switch console in 2017, and is considered one of the most significant and prominent games of the last decade.
