Since 2003, Axel Milberg has been investigating as commissioner Klaus Borowski at the "crime scene" in Kiel.

In 2025 he will be seen in the role for the last time - which breaks the hearts of the fans.

Kiel – After 20 years and almost 40 episodes, Axel Milberg (66) as Commissioner Klaus Borowski from the “Tatort” world is now indispensable.

At the side of Mila Sahin (Almila Bagriacik, 32), who has accompanied him on his adventures since 2015, he faces murderers, thieves and other crooks in Kiel.

However, ARD has now announced the departure of the "Tatort" veteran – which causes great dismay among viewers.

"Look ahead": Axel Milberg leaves the "crime scene" in Kiel after 20 years

After taking on three guest roles on "Tatort" from 1994 to 2000, Axel Milberg slipped into the role of Klaus Borowski for the first time on November 30, 2003 in the episode "Väter".

Since then he has arrested criminals and solved tricky cases of all kinds 38 times.

In April 2022, "Borowski and the shadow of the moon" flickered across the screens and this year NDR wants to show the already twisted episode "Borowski and the innocent child from Wacken" - but a farewell is still in sight.

As the ARD announced on Wednesday (March 15), Axel Milberg's time at "Tatort" is coming to an end after twenty years.

"I am more grateful to you and all the great actors and actresses than I can say here.

I especially thank the loyal audience," he looks back in a message from the broadcaster and explains: "Now I'm looking ahead."

Joachim Knuth, the director of the NDR, thanks the native of Kiel for his "great work" and dedicates a few touching lines to him: "He is an exceptional actor whose art of transformation and playfulness in the 'crime scene' I will miss very much."

The Crime Scene Phenomenon

Since the first "Tatort" episode "Taxi nach Leipzig" was broadcast on November 29, 1970, the weekly crime thriller format has developed into a true TV phenomenon and brings millions of viewers to ARD with every new episode.

To date, a proud 102 investigators have been seen in the hit show - the Munich duo Ivo Batic (Miroslav Nemec, 68) and Franz Leitmayr (Udo Wachtveitl, 64) can record the most operations.

Of the 22 constantly changing locations and teams - including Ludwigshafen, Vienna, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Zurich and Bremen - Frank Thiel (Axel Prahl, 62) and Prof. Dr.

"The next good commissioner gone": "Tatort" fans sad because of the farewell to Axel Milberg

The last Borowski episode is not scheduled to be broadcast until 2025, but Axel Milberg's upcoming series is already triggering a wave of disappointment on social media.

"The next good inspector gone," writes a dejected Facebook user, "I liked seeing him with his subtleties.

It's just a pity," another does the same for her.

"A great loss," says one user, "It's nice that he knows when it's time to stop," another shows understanding despite all the sadness.

However, the viewers have one wish - Klaus Borowski should get a worthy exit: "As long as he is not shot at the last minute in his last 'crime scene'," emphasizes a fan on Facebook.

It remains to be seen whether he will be honored with a happy ending.

Meanwhile, "Bergdoktor" fans also had to cope with a sad farewell, because Ines Lutz explained why she left the ZDF series as Anne.
