Ayuso vindicates his brother and criticizes the opposition after the filing of the mask case: "They have sought a civil lynching"

Who is speaking this Wednesday is the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who intones a plea in defense of her brother Tomás, taking advantage of the fact that the European Prosecutor's Office has archived its investigation into the alleged embezzlement of European funds in the supply contract of 250,000 masks for 1,512,500 euros from which the relative of the conservative leader benefited.

And who applauds are the popular councilors of the municipal Executive, tightly packed in the front row, close to their boss, and inflamed by a four-minute intervention so full of criticism of their political rivals ("Not everything goes, I ask you to stand up now." dedicate themselves to judging our government action ”, he said) as well as requests for an apology to his relatives.

"It is a devastating decision against all those who insulted him, my family, and the honor of my government and against me," Díaz Ayuso begins his speech.

“The dismissal [of the Prosecutor's Office] is joined by other organizations that decreed that there has been no irregularity.

Few proceedings have been as scrutinized as this one, and the verdict is in unison,” he recalls.

“Despite this, there have been many politicians who have pointed out, attacked and stained an honest man, Tomás Díaz Ayuso.

They have sought the civil lynching of a person far from politics, of a citizen who has been robbed of his anonymity, his working life and his presumption of innocence, ”he laments.

“Far from benefiting from my political responsibilities, he has seen his life seriously harmed.

The fashion clothing company Priviet Sportive SL sent a brief letter to the Community of Madrid with its offer of masks on March 28, 2020, three days before it was awarded a contract of 1.5 million euros that ended up benefiting the brother of the Madrid president.

Tomás Díaz Ayuso received a commission of more than 55,000 euros from the company for obtaining this material, according to data from the regional Executive.

The agreement, known in September by the national leadership of the PP, caused enough concern in Pablo Casado's team, then president of the party, for the baroness to be called to chapter.

"I went to his office to talk about the situation of the party and the congress [of the PP in Madrid]," Ayuso recounted six months after the meeting, when the controversy had already broken out and the secret surrounding that appointment was no longer kept by anyone.

Last summer, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office also archived its inquiries, concluding that there was no illegality because neither Ayuso nor the Governing Council that she chairs had intervened in the procedure.

In addition, the Prosecutor's Office maintained that the Madrid president did not take advantage of her position to influence the acceptance of the offer from Priviet Sportive, the company with which her brother collaborated, nor was there an incompatibility to contract with this company due to the intervention in the Tomás Díaz Ayuso operation.

“In particular, it has not been proven that the price paid for the masks was disproportionate, given the quality of the material offered and delivered, nor that it had suffered an undue increase derived from the intervention of people outside the company.

Finally, it has been proven that the transportation was paid for by the winning company and not by the Community of Madrid," the European Public Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.
