took a 180 degree turn at the start of 2023. From being an international soccer star, recognized throughout the world, in January he was denounced by a woman who claims to have been sexually assaulted in a nightclub from Barcelona.
And Messi's former partner has spent almost two months in a prison in that city.
With all the evidence against him and the Spanish Justice rejecting every request for release or bail for his freedom, the footballer who was playing for Tigres de México (the club terminated his contract) was accumulating frustrations behind bars.
And now is added the one that his now ex-wife gave him, Joana Sanz, who got tired of defending him and decided to separate after almost 8 years of relationship.
"Since I was little I write my feelings to express myself, I suppose because I am an only child. Whatever it is, it does me good. I would love that the lines written here are of love and happiness, but it is not the case. It has been horrible months, not the hardest of my life, because I have faced many storms, but very dark and painful ones," Joana begins by saying in a two-sided letter, written in her own handwriting, and presented with a photograph on Instagram.

"The feeling of abandonment and loneliness knocks on my door again. Thousands of 'whys' without an answer. I chose a person who was perfect in my eyes as a life partner," adds the 30-year-old model.
The influencer too, with almost a million followers on social media, speaks with pain about Dani Alves: "He was always there when I needed him the most. He always supported me in everything, he always encouraged me to grow, always affectionate, attentive... It's hard for me So much to accept that that person could break me into a thousand pieces. I think it will take me years of life to get years out of his way of looking at me, that way as if I were the most incredible thing in the world."

It was in 2017, in Formentera.
"I continue and will continue to be, but in another way. I love him and I will always love him. Whoever says that love is forgotten is deceiving himself or did not really love," Joana points out in another section of the letter.
And towards the end, he emphasizes the need to cut the bond he shared with Dani Alves, with a tone that mixes boredom and disappointment.
"I love myself, I respect myself and I value myself much more. Forgiving relieves me, so I keep the magic and close a stage of my life that began on 05/18/15. I give thanks for the opportunities and learning that life hands me, as hard as they are, here is a strong woman moving on to the next stage of her life."
