Limitation of promotions on hygiene products

2023-03-15T19:25:15.669Z

DECRYPTION - Promotions will now be limited to 34%, as is the case for food products since the EGalim law.

When the government puts pressure on distributors to limit the rise in prices, parliamentarians pass a law likely to increase them.

Deputies and senators agreed on Wednesday, in a joint joint committee, on the bill tabled by Renaissance deputy Frédéric Descrozaille intended to

"rebalance trade relations"

Among the main new features of the text is the framework for promotions on non-food products sold in supermarkets.

No more shock operations on detergents, shampoos or shower gels, which distributors use today as loss leaders.

Such reductions

“are destructive of value for hundreds of French SMEs”

, believe the deputies.

Promotions will now be limited to 34%, as is the case for food products since the EGalim law.

The text also plans to extend until 2025 the obligation for distributors to sell their products 10% more expensive than the price at which they bought them from their supplier, with the exception of fruit and vegetables.

Finally, the rules change in the event of a disagreement between distributors and manufacturers in the context of trade negotiations.

In the event of failure, the supplier will now have the choice between interrupting its deliveries or applying a “classic” notice of rupture.

Until now, it is the tariff of the previous year which applies, which strongly penalizes the industrialist in period of inflation.

If the representatives of the industrialists are satisfied with this agreement, the distributors deplored a text

"irresponsible and inflationary"

.
