Are opponents of pension reform getting tired of pounding the pavement after an eighth day of protest?

In Loire-Atlantique, the processions organized this Wednesday in five cities – Nantes, Saint-Nazaire, Châteaubriant, Ancenis and Clisson – brought together fewer people according to figures from the unions and the prefecture.

But beware of shortcuts, this does not necessarily mean that the movement is running out of steam.

This one especially seems to change face.

In the department, the actions are more radical.

Example: around Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, filtering dams tend to multiply.

Tuesday morning, they caused major traffic jams on the Nantes ring road.

This Wednesday, rebelote.

A filter dam took place at the bottom of Chantenay even if it disturbed traffic less.

In the morning, a similar action was also carried out in the town of Blain, where a departmental road very busy with heavy goods vehicles was blocked by trade unionists, employees and farmers.

More blockages

In addition, several blockages of industrial and economic sites were carried out on Wednesday.

They notably targeted an Amazon platform or the regional headquarters of Crédit Agricole in La Beaujoire.

Strike pickets, ahead of the processions, also took place in front of the Naval Group site in Indret or at the La Poste sorting center in Orvault.

The Michelet high school in Nantes was also blocked by students.

On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday,

"mutineers"

as they define themselves in a text of demands, attacked the headquarters of the Medef in Loire-Atlantique.

The facade of the building was covered in paint,

"as a sign of protest against their very existence"

, explain the people behind this action.

Thursday, new actions are planned.

If some are still

“under construction”,

according to the CGT, some are already known.

Thus, a filter dam will be set up at the level of the Cadréan roundabout - next to Airbus -, in Montoir-de-Bretagne, from 4:30 am.

A blockage is also announced at the roundabout of the SCA Ouest depot on the road from Cordemais to Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc from 6 a.m. or near the Leclerc car park in Clisson.

In Nantes, a picket is scheduled from 4 a.m. in front of the Semitan depot in Dalby, located near the Bellier hospital.

A rally should also be organized on Place Bretagne, in front of Carsat, from 10:30 a.m.

Garbage collectors in Nantes: decision Thursday

For the past week, waste collection has not been ensured in Nantes.

Consequence: the garbage cans overflow, pile up on the sidewalks and rubbish is spread on the road, even posing health and safety problems.

Contacted Monday by

Le Figaro

, Mahel Coppey, the assistant in charge of waste at the City of Nantes, recognized a

"delicate situation"

.

She also asked residents to make

"efforts"

by keeping

"if possible"

their garbage cans at home or at least to put them

"sheltered from the weather

".

A position that has angered the right-wing and center opposition, which accuses Mayor Johanna Rolland,

"of looking elsewhere"

facing an

"ecological catastrophe"

It remains to be seen how the movement of garbage collectors will evolve.

They are to meet on Thursday to decide on a possible resumption of collections.

They announce that these will not take place without a prior discussion with Nantes Métropole and that, in any case, they will not take place before Friday March 17.

The people of Nantes will therefore have to wait before finding sidewalks free of any container.

Donges refinery: strike extended for at least 24 hours

In Donges, the TotalEnergies refinery has been shut down since March 6.

Since that date, no petroleum product has come out.

The employees were to meet on Thursday to discuss a possible resumption of activity, although the site is disrupted by a breakdown of electrical transformers.

The meeting was postponed for 24 hours.

The inter-union CGT-FO-CFDT now gives employees an appointment on Friday to decide whether or not to continue the movement.

LNG terminal: strike until Tuesday

The large Elengy LNG terminal, in Montoir-de-Bretagne, has also been shut down since March 6.

The movement will continue for several more days.

On Tuesday, the employees voted to renew the blockage for at least a week.

It should therefore extend, at least, until March 21.

Through this action, employees are blocking the gas supply to the GRTgaz distribution network, the unloading of LNG carriers and the filling of LNG tanks.

The management of Elengy confirmed the renewal of the trade union movement while considering, at this stage, that there was

"no danger on the network"

.
