One of the dirtiest places in the house is undoubtedly our bathroom.

It is natural that a place where we defecate would require more frequent cleaning, but it turns out that we have been cleaning our toilets incorrectly until now.

At least that's what Emma Harding claims, a microbiologist who specializes in virology, who explained that cleaning on a weekly basis with soap and water can do the job, but it really depends on how you clean.

"Soapy water is very effective at eliminating a large variety of microbes, so your regular cleaning can get rid of it," she explained.

You can use additional disinfectants when the toilets accumulate dirt and grime.

However, there is one thing Emma insists you do when it comes to your bathroom.

Another important rule is to thoroughly clean the toilet after use by one of the family members who is not feeling well to avoid the others getting infected.

If you want to be careful, you should also clean the bathtub between uses to make sure there are no microbes that have accumulated there.
