The Minister of Defense received an overview of the investigation into the attack at the Megiddo Junction, and said that "the potential for damage was great" since an explosive belt was found on the terrorist. According to him, "We will find the right timing and act in the right way - and cripple whoever did the attack"

Defense Minister Yoav Galant threatened today (Thursday) in response to the attack at the Megiddo Junction earlier this week, during a tour he conducted in the Northern Command.

The terrorist, who planted an explosive device and also carried an explosive belt, crossed the border from Lebanon and it is still not clear if Hezbollah was involved in the attack.

"This is a complex event with many threads. One thing is clear: we will arrive at a clear investigation of all the details, even if it takes time," said Gallant.

"We have high capabilities in the security system both in the field and in intelligence. A heavy and difficult incident was avoided here as a result of determined, responsible and very serious action by the IDF and all the security agencies.

The potential for damage was great.

I want to praise the commanders of the IDF, the soldiers, the Shin Bet personnel and the head of the service, the police and the MGB for closing this circle and bringing about the elimination of a terrorist with an explosive belt with all the implications derived from the matter."

Gallant added: "I want to say in the clearest way: Whoever carried out the attack will regret that he carried out an attack against the citizens of Israel and the State of Israel. We will find the right time and act in the right way and strike at it."

In the attack, 21-year-old Salem resident Sharaf Eldin Hameisi was seriously injured. Medical officials arrived at the scene and evacuated him to the Emek Hospital in Afula, after which he was transferred to the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, where he is still hospitalized. Following the car explosion, the police blocked Route 65 in both directions and roads more in the area for long hours.
