The costs for those in need of care continue to rise.
The government wants to take countermeasures with a higher care contribution – but this will be expensive, especially for pensioners.
Berlin – Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach wants to reform care.
Despite widespread criticism, he is sticking to his plans.
"Those in need of care deserve our full solidarity," said the SPD politician of the German Press Agency.
"Since the costs of good care are increasing, the community of solidarity must not look the other way and leave these higher costs to those who are being cared for and their relatives."
Care reform: Lauterbach would like to raise contributions
To finance the plans, the care contribution is to be increased in the summer and there is also to be a greater differentiation based on whether you have children or not.
Large families in particular would benefit from this.
From three children it would then be cheaper than before.
According to a draft by the ministry, the general contribution is to be increased “moderately by 0.35 percentage points” on July 1st.
It is still 3.05 percent of gross wages, and 3.40 percent for people without children.
At the same time, however, a ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court is to be implemented, according to which parents with several children must be better off than small families and those without children.
Specifically, Lauterbach's plans would mean that families with three or more children would pay less than they currently do.
According to the draft, the contribution for three children would be 3.10 percent in the future - of which 1.40 percent would be borne by the insured and 1.70 percent by the employer.
So far, the contribution for people with children has been 1.525 percent for employers and employees.

Nursing care contributions are increasing: It is becoming more expensive, especially for pensioners
Those who would suffer from this new rule would be pensioners in particular.
Because they have to shoulder the care contributions completely on their own.
In the case of employees, the employer takes over half – so the increase does not hit them with full hardship.
Pensioners with few children, on the other hand, have to pay the full increase.
According to Lauterbach's reform, a retiree with 1000 euros would have to pay a care contribution of 40 euros instead of the previous 34 euros, as
Bild.de
calculated.
You can read in the following table how the increase actually affects a pension of 1000 euros:
number of children | care contribution so far | care contribution after the reform |
---|---|---|
Childless | 34 euros | 40 euros |
A child | 30.50 euros | 34 euros |
two children | 30.50 euros | 32.50 euros |
three children | 30.50 euros | 31 euros |
But: With four children or more, pensioners also have to pay less than before.
The care reform will probably be much more noticeable for pensioners than for employees.
