2023-03-16T21:31:24.179Z

The former River renewed his relationship with the Ciudadanos until 2028 and obtained a significant salary increase.

It's official,

Julián Álvarez

renewed his contract with

Manchester City

this Thursday morning.

The Argentine striker broke it during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and demonstrated his level every time Pep Guardiola gave him minutes.

And that is why the English club decided to extend his contract and thus "shield" him for at least five more years.

The agreement contemplates the extension of his current relationship (he signed for one more year, until June 2028) and an economic improvement (he would earn twice as much).

Julián Álvarez signed with City until 2028.

City made it official through their social networks and according to the Daily Mail newspaper, Julián not only extended his contract with the Ciudadanos but would go on to earn a figure close to 100,000 pounds

a week.

Total madness!

," the English club published after the contract extension.

The forward of the Argentine National Team assured that he could not be happier after renewing with Manchester City and affirmed that he has a lot to improve in all the time he has ahead of him.

“This is a proud moment for me and my family.

For a club like City to put their faith in me is something incredible.

I am very happy with my first season here, but I can give much more.

I know I can be better and City offers me everything I need to reach my full potential, ”he declared after extending his contract.

Julian's humility.

Julián's numbers at City

Since his arrival in England,

the Spider has scored 10 goals and three assists in 32 games

, of which he played 1,581 minutes distributed in 14 games as a starter and 18 as a substitute.

Great numbers that reached Julián Álvarez to have contractual and economic recognition in England.

All this beyond not being the owner.

The center forward position at Guardiola's City belongs to the Norwegian

Erling Haaland

, who has 28 goals in the Premier League and 10 in the Champions League.

Difficult to compete with

.

The controversy in the British media and also in the Argentine media began after City's draw in Germany against Leipzig for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.

City had equalized 1-1 and the Catalan coach made no changes.

Julián Álvarez watched from the substitute bench for 90 minutes.

After that match, Guardiola explained: "I was about to put Julián (Álvarez) in the second half near Erling (Haaland) to be more aggressive, but we conceded a goal."

And then he explained, with some annoyance: “I have the possibility of making substitutions because they are the rules of the game;

but I am a very good coach to decide if I have to make substitutions or not”.

In the rematch, at Etihad Stadium, they prevailed 7-0 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Beyond the subjectivities and whether or not the striker born in Calchín deserves more minutes, it is -barely- his first season in a giant like Manchester City and by the hand of a coach from Guardiola's hierarchy, who did not let to praise him since he arrived, he anticipated that he was a candidate to play (and win) the World Cup and seeks to take him little by little to be able to take advantage of his full potential.

Meanwhile, the Spider enjoys England and will remain a "citizen" for at least five more years.
