A large fire broke out on Thursday in a building of the border guards in a region of southern Russia bordering Ukraine, announced the emergency services without giving at this stage the cause of the fire.
"
A fire has been reported (...) the units are on their way
," said a spokesman for the local branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, quoted by the Ria Novosti agency.
Footage circulating on social media showed a large plume of black smoke billowing from this building in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, which media say belongs to border guards.
Border guards in Russia depend on the Russian security services, the FSB.
Negligence or sabotage?
If fires are frequent in Russia due to poor compliance with anti-fire standards, Ukraine has also been accused of having carried out several attacks or sabotage operations on Russian territory since the start of the conflict with Moscow.
